Youth of the Year is the highest honor that can be bestowed on a member of a local Boys & Girls Club. To be selected as the Youth of the Year, the person selected must have been a member of the club for at least 2 years, and be 14-18 years of age. At the state level competition, it is almost always a senior that is selected to represent NC in the regional competition. Currently our oldest members are rising Juniors. We are very fortunate to have several outstanding candidates in our club, and with the experience that they are gaining by attending and competing in the state, we expect great things from them all.
The 2008 local competition was very close. Our club winner is Tricia Owen, with runners-up Aaron Green and Kentrell Baker. Tricia is the President of the Keystone Club of Transylvania County, and had 265 hours of community and club service. She is a member of the Varsity Girl's Basketball Team, and Varsity Softball Teams at Brevard High. She was recently selected as an All-Conference Softball Player. Tricia enjoys working in the community, and with the younger members at the Boys & Girls Club. She represented Transylvania County very well at the state competition that was held in Raleigh in April.
